Explore the world of beers in our Summer Brewskies Series alongside brewskie aficionado Hagan Blount, of I Taste Your Beer & Wandering Foodie, and Nissa Pierson, Managing Director of Ger-Nis Culinary & Herb Center, amateur beer drinker & culinary beer extraordinaire! Sourpusses unite this evening to peer into the future of beer- a whole new world filled to the brim with gorgeous sour beer! We’re positive you’ll find out what makes beer lovers crazy for krieks, loopy for lambics, goofy for gueuzes, and just plain psyched for sour brews. We’ll cover all of the varieties of sour beers, talk about which ones came from which region, and why it is that Americans have just started tapping into the sour beer world. We’ll explore their history, what ingredients make them sour and unique and how to choose the best types in-store. We will taste and compare several sour beers and discuss flavor profiles. We’ll skillfully utilize the sour notes in the beer to mesh with tart fruits for sweet-sour deliciousness, making a simple yet elegant granita you can easily reproduce at home! Go sour or go home!

Hagan Blount

Hagan began training to be a beer connoisseur before it was legally admissible. His beer snobbery developed more roundly throughout high school and college, beginning to break into microbrews after exposure to the accessible gateway drinks distributed by Allagash, Geary’s, Samuel Adams, and Saranac. A young man can’t help feeling an air of superiority knowing that the beers he’s drinking have a more complex flavor profile than those favored by his peers (who were drinking cheaper stuff only to get drunk night after night). As someone who constantly seeks new ways to stimulate his senses, Hagan has come to one conclusion: beer is the least expensive way for a person to have a new, multi-sensory experience every day. He wants to share this with the world, and you can rely on his site to bring you unbiased information on beers with every click.

Nissa Pierson

Managing Director of Ger-Nis International, Nissa Pierson, has opened up to sour beers, due to their unusual nature! Excited to discover how well sour beers blend with tart fruits and rich dark tones in foods, she has been utilizing them more frequently in her cooking! Nissa is always looking how to avoid people purchasing processed foods that are filled with ingredients we cannot pronounce, loaded with bad fats and high in sodium. In addition to running Ger-Nis, Nissa is a long time culinary instructor specializing in fresh herbs. Besides being a passionate teacher of fresh herbs, organics and fair-trade, she enjoys spice (in her food and in her life), good conversation and debates, kickboxing, the ocean and surfing, and submersing herself in the food and culture of the world.
