We here at Ger-Nis are so excited about our new friends Just Food, a non-profit organization that connects communities and local farms with the resources and support they need to make fresh, locally grown food accessible to all New Yorkers. Once a month on Monday nights throughout the summer and fall seasons, we’ll be hosting a cooking series with Just Food that focuses on educating the entire family on how to eat locally for a more sustainable future. Led by the amazing instructors at Just Food and our own Nissa Pierson, these classes will incorporate some of the most current topics that families are dealing with, from an increase in food allergies to homemade baby food, all using local, seasonal ingredients to help support New York farms and communities! We know that cooking for kids with food sensitivities can pose a challenge, especially when trying to make dinners that the whole family will enjoy. In this class we’ll make a variety of dishes (all gluten and dairy-free) that are easy-to-prepare, flavorful, simple enough for kids yet sophisticated enough for adults.
Recipes: Chopped Romaine salad with Lemon-Vinaigrette, Black Bean Burgers with Cucumber-Avocado Sauce; Braised Salmon in Dashi with Rice Noodles and Baby Bok Choy; Coconut-Crusted Baked Chicken Legs; Sweet Potato-Turnip Mash with Caramelized Shallots
Class Type: Series: Healthy Families Eating Locally Cooking Series with Just Food
Class Notes: Join Just Food and Ger-Nis in a mission to make locally grown food accessible to all New Yorkers.
