Dim sum is, in many ways, an ideal take out food – you can choose from many different options and put together a meal that exactly satisfies your current craving. Imagine if you knew how to create all those tasty dumplings yourself, using the high quality, locally sourced and seasonal ingredients that you know are best. Once you mastered the various techniques, including pan fried dumplings and the steamed dumplings, you could fill them with anything that you dream up, from Chinese BBQ pork to miso ginger glazed vegetables. That would make it truly ideal! If you were sitting down for some dim sum in China, one of the first things your server might ask is what kind of tea you would prefer at the table. Well, if you were sitting down for some dim sum in your own home the tea you prefer might just be a beer. In our “Dim Sum & Beer” class, one of the most popular classes in our “Make Your Own Take Out” series, you’ll learn all the ins and outs of these tasty dumplings (that would be the fillings and the wrappers) and pair them with local beer. You’ll learn the basics that will allow you to play with local ingredients and Asian flavors to create your own, perfect dim sum and match it with your favorite brew. Living in an urban environment, there are endless opportunities to just bring home some take out and be done with it; but, as we like to say, it’s more convenient in the long run to know how to do it yourself.
