Bring the whole family for a fun and creative class spent making seasonal sodas and snacks, using fresh, natural ingredients. The workshop ends with a contest for most creative soda! The day is geared toward the kids and teens in the room (but, adults, don’t be afraid to bring a childlike sense of wonder with you). Attendees will get to experience the magic that happens ‘behind-the-scenes,’ transforming ingredients in unseemly ways while playing with portions and recipes. Herbs, spices and seasonal ingredients, like roasted parsnips, will be at the students’ disposal as they master the art of simple syrups, turning up the heat by playing with different sweeteners. This journey would not be complete without dabbling in the fresh juice making arts. Juices add a natural acidity and kick to soda, balancing flavors like it ‘ain’t no thing’. Everyone will get to see how syrups, juices and carbonation combine to make soda such a versatile and simple treat. Class will be supplemented with a seasonal snack-making component, highlighting the ease and simplicity of swapping in seasonal ingredients! We’ll use butter cookies as a guide when exploring the topic of seasonal ingredient swapping. At the end of class, we’ll hold the contest for most creative soda- winner takes home a fun surprise! Everyone will leave class more of a jerk (soda jerk!) than when they came, and with a jolt more kitchen confidence.
