As part of our Bolinas School district cooking class program, this season we are offering family classes.  Family classes offer a unique opportunity for families to share in the creative learning process of cooking together as a community. Working together to create healthy meals, the group learns how to work cooperatively with one another while having loads of fun. Family cooking classes offer a new and exciting way to foster family and community pride! In these classes we learn about food and cooking and each other.  What we see unfold in the kitchen when families and communities cook together is magical!

The California taco and burrito scene are diverse with everything from hardliner to the exotic. In this class we demonstrate how easy it is to create delicious and healthy tacos and burritos utilizing our seasonal local bounty.  We are not forgoing the meat, we love our carnitas and will teach a quick method Nissa uses to get food on the table quick. We will show you how to include more vegetables in your tacos, burritos and sauce without having to hide it from the kids. We concentrate on a variety of fillings as we know the taste of children (not unlike adults) is vast and your family will learn techniques like burrito wrapping and pre-roasting for salsa. As the kids in the regular cooking classes know we never forgo dessert or drinks! But we always do these differently with way less sugar, which rarely receives complaints from the kids and for parents and guardians, we keep them in our usual EASY TO WHIP UP format!

Class welcomes all Bolinas families! If you don’t have kids of your own, take the opportunity to invite one of your friends or neighbors’ kids and treat them to some food and fun!

Nissa Pierson

Founder of Ger-Nis Culinary & Herb Center, Nissa, loves her tacos and burritos having grown up on them in Southern California and more importantly experiencing first hand the flavors and varieties of tacos offered in Central America, Mexico, and beyond starting at age 11. Seasonal tacos  and burritos are a regular component to her diet and are always being cooked up fresh in her home. At 11, she learned love for the land and its people during her time in Nicaragua which in turn played a role in becoming a passionate advocate for  fairly traded, sustainable, organic agriculture.  She’s been teaching kids to cook since she was in her early 20’s.  Her other passions include good conversation and debates, yoga, the ocean, beach playing, and submersing herself in the food and culture of the world. Contact Nissa
